If you have a penchant for investing at the small side of the market, then it could be worth checking out the three small cap ASX shares in this article.

That's because they have been named as buys by analysts. Here's what they are saying about them, courtesy of The Bull.

Excite Technology Services Ltd (ASX: EXT)

Analysts at Red Leaf Securities are recommending this small cap ASX share as a buy this week.

It is a cybersecurity company offering comprehensive cybersecurity services, including threat prevention, managed cloud and IT services, specialist digital forensics, incident response, forensic investigations, and accredited training.

Red Leaf thinks its shares are undervalued, especially given its record month in September. It said:

EXT offers cybersecurity services, including threat prevention. We like its outlook in response to strategic acquisitions, improving financial performance and growth prospects. It achieved record monthly sales of $7.14 million in September 2025. The stock appears undervalued relative to its growth potential. With an expanding product suite and broader market reach, EXT is well-positioned for scalable growth, making it an appealing opportunity for investors seeking exposure to the cybersecurity and technology sector.

Firstwave Cloud Technology Ltd (ASX: FCT)

Another small cap ASX share that could be a buy according to analysts is Firstwave Cloud Technology.

It is a provider of enterprise-grade network management, automation, audit, and cybersecurity software. There are an estimated 150,000 organisations using Firstwave software across 178 countries.

Red Leaf Securities thinks it could be a top pick for investors with a high tolerance for risk. It said:

FCT is a global software company. The company's recent capital raising of $2.85 million is aimed at accelerating its shift to artificial intelligence-powered compliance management, leveraging its user base of more than 150,000 to unlock potential annual recurring revenue. On top of the capital raising, the company secured a $2.5 million loan facility, which further enhances financial flexibility amid supporting initiatives. Recently, trading below book value, FirstWave combines value and growth potential. The stock was trading at 1.2 cents on October 16. The stock suits investors, who have an appetite for risk and are seeking exposure to innovative cybersecurity solutions. Our company was involved in the capital raising.

Nexsen (ASX: NXN)

This small cap ASX biotech share has been given a buy rating by analysts at Medallion.

It is a new listing on the Australian share market and offers early-stage exposure to a genuine medical innovation story according to Medallion. It said:

This nano-biotechnology company is developing an innovative point-of-care diagnostic platform. NXN listed on the ASX on October 14, 2025, after raising $8 million in capital and issuing shares in the initial public offering at 20 cents each. The shares closed at 28 cents on October 14 and were trading at 30 cents on October 16. NXN is a first mover in rapid, lab quality diagnostics. Nexsen's most advanced product is the GBS Rapid Sensor for the detection of Group B Streptococcus in expectant mothers. The company's nanotech platform provides scale as it can be expanded across multiple diseases. On a path to commercialisation, Nexsen offers rare early stage exposure to a genuine medical innovation story.

The FirstWave Cloud Technology Ltd (ASX: FCT) share price is continuing an impressive run this week.

This follows the technology company's announcement today of a leadership change and business update for its fourth-quarter performance.

At the time of writing, the FirstWave share price is up 6%, trading at 8.8 cents after hitting an intraday high of 9.1 cents around midday. This gives the company's share price a gain of more than 33% in the past week.

Let's take a closer look at what the company updated the ASX with today.

FirstWave CEO drops resignation bomb

In its first piece of news, FirstWave revealed that CEO Neil Pollock has tendered his resignation with immediate effect.

With the board accepting Mr Pollock's hasty departure, FirstWave executive chair John Grant will assume leadership responsibilities until the company can find a permanent replacement. No reason was indicated as to why Mr Pollock decided to leave the company.

Mr Grant briefly touched on the outgoing CEO, saying:

The FirstWave Board acknowledges Neil's contribution to FirstWave since 2017, including over the last 12 months as CEO. Neil leaves with our best wishes for his future endeavours.

The surprise exit appears to have had little bearing on the FirstWave share price, with investors more focused on rewarding the company for its positive Q4 FY21 results.

FirstWave records strong growth

In the same release, FirstWave provided investors with a trading update for its fourth-quarter performance.

The company revealed international annualised recurring revenue (IARR) is expected to exceed $3 million at the financial year's end. This is up to a 50% increase on the result achieved from the end of the third quarter (roughly $2 million).

FirstWave said its continued focus on expense management and collections led to a reduction in cash burn. This includeed corporate costs such as rent, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and employee costs.

As a result, the company noted that its cash balance was in line with forecasts, sitting at $9.96 million.

Mr Grant went on to talk about FirstWave's trading performance and FY22 plan, saying:

Our performance in the fourth quarter was encouraging, with international revenue growth continuing and our cash position remaining strong.

On stepping into the CEO role on an interim basis, I will take some time to review the plan for FY22 and will report back to the market as part of our fourth quarter update at the end of the month.

About the FirstWave share price

Despite this week's massive rise, the FirstWave share price has fallen close to 50% since the start of the year. The company's share price reached a 52-week low of 6.6 cents before rebounding to May levels.

At today's price, FirstWave presides a market capitalisation of roughly $65.7 million, with approximately 747 million shares outstanding.

What does FirstWave Cloud do?

FirstWave is a global cybersecurity company established in 2004. The company provides security-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions to tier 1 telcos and service providers around the world.

FirstWave has deployed 11 cloud content security platforms across North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia and Oceania.

Why is the FirstWave Cloud share price surging?

Earlier today, the Aussie technology company announced a new advisory committee to drive sales and product maturity.

The new Technology and Markets Board Committee (TMC) will be headed by FirstWave founder Scott Lidgett, alongside the company's existing executive chair, chief operating officer, chief technology officer (CTO) and strategy director.

Former Cisco Systems ANZ CTO Kevin Bloch was also appointed as an adviser. Mr Bloch left Cisco at the end of June to launch his own advisory firm, Bloch Advisory.

TMC's first order of business will be to review FirstWave's current product and commercialisation strategy and help the company deliver on its FY21 plan. Mr Bloch and the TMC will also work to position the company for long-term, sustained success.

The news was well-received by shareholders with the FirstWave share price rocketing up 28%.

FirstWave executive chair John Grant welcomed the specialist appointment, describing Mr Bloch's move as a "significant coup" for the company.

What else has been happening for FirstWave?

The FirstWave share price is up 28% today following a 19.0% increase in yesterday's trade.

That came ahead of the company's extraordinary general meeting and the release of the chair's address.

Shareholders voted to approve the service rights proposal to issue shares to executives. Notably, part of Mr Bloch's fees will be paid as service rights under the recently-approved rights plan.
