Best and worst stocks on the ASX today

The S&P/ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) has posted another fall, ending the day 0.5% lower. Today’s fall follows yesterday’s dramatic 1.75% plunge in the index and is despite the Dow Jones adding 0.5% and the S&P 500 gaining 0.8% overnight.

Even the gold sector which had bucked the down trend yesterday failed to find support today. All sectors, with the exception of consumer discretionary, finished the day in the red.
