Best and worst stocks on the ASX today

The S&P / ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) has dropped 0.8% to close at 5,307.7, the third consecutive day of falls. Mining services stocks were hammered, after WorleyParsons announced a major profit downgrade. And the market falls were despite the US Federal Reserve chairman indicating that economic stimulus would continue for sometime, something that has been driving the stock market higher for a while.

Here are the top five best performing stocks in the index today.

  • St Barbara (ASX: SBM) gained 4.8% to 32.5 cents
  • Drillsearch Energy (ASX: DLS) also gained 4.8% to $1.30
  • Perseus Mining (ASX: PRU) added 4.7% to 33.5 cents
  • Senex Energy (ASX: SXY) rose 3.9% to 80 cents
  • Evolution Mining (ASX: EVN) closed up 3.5% at 73.5 cents
